OVERVIEW

See Klaipeda from a unique water perspective while canoeing along the Dane River and enjoy a closer look at the landmarks on a guided walk through Old Town. Klaipeda lies at the mouth of the river, whose waterfront promenade is lined with cafés and shops. As you paddle through the sheltered waterway, you will pass 17th-century warehouses, the preserved defensive mounds on Jonas Hill and the former residence of the Prussian royal family, which is now city hall. Along the way, the guide will describe the most noteworthy attractions and how Klaipeda has evolved since Lithuania gained its independence from the Soviet Union in 1991. Your exploration of Old Town will continue on foot as the guide leads you through cobblestoned Theatre Square and on to the German-style timber-framed buildings that have been converted into a crafts center. Afterwards, you can relax over a beer and a garlic bread snack at a traditional pub.
